YAF offers classes in both traditional modes such as Iyengar as well as more modern variations such as Vinyasa. It is our goal to provide students with a strong knowledge base of alignment, a broad range of yoga fundamentals and an understanding of the core principles. We feel that yoga is a set of tools which enables one to safely explore the body, mind and spirit and how they co-exist on the highest levels of strength, health, flexibility, awareness and pure enjoyment. Though each type of yoga has its own unique qualities which are described below, each style comes from the same root and they share many common elements so they compliment each other well. We encourage students to sample different styles, levels and teachers to find the most appropriate and inspiring class for themselves.

drop-in class descriptions Drop-in classes are on-going and run continuously. You are welcome to join at any time for one or more classes. Purchase a 10-class pass for additional savings and use it toward drop-in classes.
basic beginning yoga
A welcoming space for the student new to yoga, or for more experienced students who want to reconnect with the fundamentals. Vinyasa style, with attention to alignment and breath. May include introduction to chant and the philosophy of yoga. foundations of krisnamacarya A breath based yoga class in the tradition of Krisnamacarya, covering all aspects including asana, breath and meditation. A supplement to fundamentals of yoga class (see series classes below). All levels will benefit. gentle yoga Learn the best way to breathe away the stresses and tension, and get into the calm mind and body. Classic yoga asana (postures) with added props will soften and support the body so relaxation can enter. Pranayama (breathing) techniques will also be explored. This class is a perfect balance to an active yoga practice. It suits all levels. The lunchtime yoga class can be taken in your business attire. hatha yoga
This class focuses on traditional Hatha yoga asanas and is appropriate for beginners and experienced yoga practitioners. We will combine flowing movement with proper alignment in yoga asanas and at the same time, direct the movement with the breath. You will receive personalized attention while using the fundamental techniques of yoga for strength, flexibility, stamina, balance and relaxation. The practice will incorporate both active and relaxing yoga poses, as well as some basic components of meditation, breathing and chanting in order to link the body, mind and spirit. introduction to iyengar yoga
In this class you will learn the basic asanas with a focus on alignment and sequencing from J Michael Taylor, a certified Iyengar instructor. Each class will build upon the previous class so that at the end of 8-12 weeks you will have a strong foundation in the asanas including inversions and some pranayama/breathing techniques.You will also learn to work with props which will facilitate and deepening your understanding of the poses. iyengar yoga
This class has a strong emphasis on technique with the use of yoga props to assist the accurate alignment of the body. It is therapeutic in every way. vinyasa flow yoga
A blending of yoga postures with schronized breath and smooth movement. Vinyasa Flow Yoga increases strength, stamina and flexibility while calming and steadying the mind. *NOTE: Both Iyengar and Vinyasa Flow styles offer classes in level 1 and level 2.

For students new to yoga or experienced students who want to reconnect with the key elements of yoga practice. This basic yoga class introduces the fundamentals of yoga with emphasis on breath and alignment. Students will be guided through yoga postures, meditation, and relaxation.
- *level 2
This is for experienced students. This level explores the dynamic of dristi (eye positions) bandhas (internal lock) and more advanced yoga postures. Headstand, arm balance and half lotus position are emphasized.

Discovery through self-reflection offers an opportunity to find balance, reduce suffering and create more joy in your life. sunrise yoga Sunrise yoga is an all-levels class for those who want to stretch and strengthen in the morning for more energy throughout the day! Includes alignment principles, breathwork and relaxation. yoga level 1 The next step both for students who have completed the Fundamentals course as well as more experienced students who want to refine their practice. Breath-based movement in standing, seated, balance, and reclined poses. New asanas, breath work, and meditation techniques will be introduced, and others will be held longer to deepen the experience.

fundamentals of yogaThis progressive 6 week introductory course is designed for students new to yoga to explore the basics, develop strength, balance, and flexibility and experience the peace of mind yoga promises. In this class you will cover all the fundamental poses, diaphragmatic breathing, grounding, alignment, meditation, the energy body and some of the rich history and tradition of yoga. Registration required. No passes or drop-ins. $90 for 6 week series. See schedule for dates. prenatal yogaDesigned to reduce the aches and pains which accompany pregnancy, this class teaches strength and stamina. Focus on special breathing techniques, opening the hips, and preparing your body for birth. Learn techniques to alleviate lower back pain, leg pain and slumping posture by practicing gentle, modified yoga poses. Appropriate for expectant mothers at all stages of pregnancy. vedic chant/yoga sutra studyCome each Sunday to explore the tools of Vedic chant and/or study of yoga philosophy and its practical application to our everyday lives. Each monthly session alternates between chant and sutra study. Fee: $60 for 4-week session. See schedule for dates. yoga for anxietyAccording to the Yoga Sutra-s, sadness, negative thinking, physical aches and pains, and uneven breathing can be signs that our mind is agitated. In this four-week series, we will explore concrete tools that yoga provides, such as movement, breath work, and sound, to help reduce anxiety and agitation and improve clarity at the levels of body, breath, and mind. Meets in small studio. Registration required. No passes or drop-ins. $60 for 4 week series. See schedule for dates. yoga for scoliosisThis 6-week small group class is for yoga students with scoliosis. Through yoga asana and pranayama, learn to breathe fully, elongate, lengthen and de-rotate the spine, strengthen muscles, re-align the posture, defy gravity, and address pain. Class size limited to 6 students. Registration is required. No passes or drop-ins. $90 for 6 week series. See schedule for dates.
