Join us for an immersive eight-month book club series as we explore Embodying the Yoga Sutra: Support, Direction, Space by Ranju Roy and David Charlton. Together, we'll delve into the wisdom of the Yoga Sutra through focused readings and discussions, connecting ancient teachings to our modern lives.

Patanjali's yoga sutras are the key text of yoga. Yet, for many yoga practitioners, its more profound treasures remain unknown or mired in obscurity.

Applying the teachings of this book will enliven your yoga practice and deepen your understanding of your Self.

—GARY KRAFTSOW, author of Yoga for Wellness and Yoga for Transformation

Ranju Roy and David Charlton focus on 18 of the most essential sutras and show how each one illuminates the relationship between the body, the breath, and the mind in a practical, clear, and contemporary manner. The sutras are carefully deconstructed, put into context, and then developed into ideas for practice.

The authors examine the interplay of three key terms: support, direction, and space. They suggest that only by taking support on something can you establish a clear direction, and only then can a space open up to grow. This formula can be applied successfully to the body (in asana), the breath (in pranayama), and the mind (through meditation).

With illustrated asana sequences and suggested practices, Embodying the Yoga Sutra is both a practical and deeply philosophical book. Roy and Charlton give readers a whole new vocabulary with which to understand yoga as a living, vibrant, and dynamic tradition.

Reviews of Laura's Previous Retreats

  • I am so excited to attend my third retreat with Laura Jane and this amazing community of yogis. There is a reason so many of us keep coming back year after year. Beyond the incredible resort we are staying at (and "incredible" doesn't do it justice), Laura Jane creates such a warm and welcoming atmosphere in which to explore your yoga practice regardless of where you are at in your life. The twice daily practices and daily sutra study, combined with the beauty of the Baja peninsula and the phenomenal food, make this a retreat everyone should experience!
    — CATHY CHRISTOFF

  • A trip to Greece had been on my “bucket list” for many years. The experience with Laura Jane in Amorgos was beautiful, peaceful, and exceeded my expectations about visiting Greece! We practiced well thought out yoga classes twice a day, and still had plenty of time for outings on the island, or time to relax by the pool. The group was a true sangha, community, of friendly open people. Old friends reconnected, and new friends were made by each yogi. I feel confident about traveling with Laura Jane!
    — KAY GILMORE

  • I try to never miss Laura Jane's wonderful yoga retreats! They are the one time of the year that is just about me. I don't have to take care of anyone or anything other than myself. The combination of yoga, healthy food, journaling, quiet time, a wonderful guide and amazing friends is just what I need to regenerate for the year ahead. Not to mention that Prana Delmar is a real jem!

Candlelight Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra: Embracing the Snow Moon

Yoga Among Friends (map)

Led by Jaclyn Jackson, CYT

Workshop | Sunday, Feb 9
5:30-6:45pm | $30

Under the gentle glow of candlelight, join us for an evening of stillness, reflection, and quiet renewal as we honor February’s full moon, the Snow Moon. In this season of transition, as the winter landscape lingers yet whispers of spring begin to stir, the Snow Moon invites us to pause, trust the cycles of nature, and find hope in the subtle promise of brighter days ahead.

We’ll begin with a restorative yoga practice, holding supportive poses that encourage deep relaxation, release tension, and create a sense of balance. Using props, we’ll craft a cocoon of comfort where you can connect with the peaceful energy of winter while welcoming the gentle awakening that signals spring’s eventual arrival.

The evening concludes with a deeply restorative Yoga Nidra meditation—a guided journey into profound relaxation and inner awareness. This practice will help you let go of what no longer serves you, awaken your inner light, and honor the quiet growth happening beneath the surface as we look toward the slow but sure renewal of spring.

What to Bring: Comfortable clothing, your yoga mat, and any props that help you relax (blankets, bolsters, or eye pillows). A limited number of props will be available.

Spaces are limited for this intimate gathering—reserve your spot today to step into the magic of stillness and renewal.

About Ann Wathers

Ann was not known to be artistic, but in 2014, she experienced a life-changing event.  She was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and went through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.  She finished treatment in 2015, and part of her healing led her to make candles and soap.  In 2017, during a session with her psychic medium, she asked, “Do you paint?” Ann laughed and said no.  The psychic told her angels were encouraging me to paint, and since Ann believes in angels, she found a local sip and paint event.  She painted a lavender field at the event and loved it. Ann had no idea where this was leading her, but this painting became the logo for Simply Ann’s Lavender the following year.  She sells her candles, soap, and paintings at Etsy and local events.

Ann lives in a historic home in Lombard with her two dogs and is grateful for my peaceful life.

March’s Topic: The Essential Method & Yoga and Wellness: A Therapeutic Model (Sections 4-5)

The series meets on the third Saturday of each month through August. Additional dates are Apr 19, May 17, Jun 21, Jul 19, and Aug 16.

What to Expect

  • Interactive Sessions: Attend in person or join via Zoom for a shared space of learning and reflection.

  • Deep Exploration: Each month, we’ll focus on specific sections of the book, diving into topics such as practicing asana and pranayama, overcoming obstacles, and cultivating mindfulness.

Location

Our retreat center overlooks the terrain of this magical place as we enjoy the privacy of having the entire resort to ourselves.

The NY Post calls the region of Puglia magical, and Lonely Planet put it on its 2014 must-see places list. This area is full of historic and cultural sites. Beautiful beaches are easily accessible. Martina Franca, the closest town to the center, is old and charming, surrounded by stone walls with prominent Baroque gates leading to piazzas and narrow, winding streets. And the retreat center is known for its incredible farm-to-table dining, forested walking trails, and proximity to the Adriatic Sea.

Yoga and Meditation

An Unforgettable Experience with Laura Jane Mellencamp

Using the practice of yoga and meditation, Laura Jane has designed this week to support you in exploring the tools of stilling the mind and embracing your authentic self. The yoga classes will blend the disciplines of vinyasa flow with a strong emphasis on pranayama and meditation to still the roaming mind, calm the system, and live in a state of balance. They will cover the fundamental principles underlying the therapeutic application of yoga and how to incorporate these principles into your practice. Work to dissolve old blockages, unravel samskaras, and create new pathways to vibrant health and happiness. The result will be one of the most incredible, unforgettable yoga experiences you will ever have.

This week is a perfect balance between rest and play. Laura has discovered through leading and attending many retreats that traveling together and saying yes to life and its opportunities in the moment create lasting friendships and a gratitude for life’s abundance that will last forever.

This yoga retreat is for all ages and all life experiences, including all levels of yoga practitioners, yoga teachers, and bodywork therapists.

Private yoga sessions will also be available.
