We have all heard of the endless benefits of yoga, but for populations of people with ADHD, it can be transformative. Yoga has been proven to decrease pain, and reduce stress and depressive symptoms. It also can slow your heart rate, lower cortisol levels in the body and increase neurotransmitters in the brain, which will increase your mood and can reduce anxiety and overwhelm. Whether you are more active or have a quieter type of ADHD, the benefits are numerous.

ADHD has been referred to as an inability to plan and execute tasks, no matter how many wonderful, beautiful and brilliant ideas are swirling around in your brain. For those of us with ADHD, the prefrontal cortex stands in the way of initiating that genius. Through yoga, we will come together and move as a group addressing the specific needs of slowing down, speeding up, and getting in touch with exactly what our bodies need. We will identify feelings in the body that can cause difficulty with emotional regulation and discover ways to bring the actions associated with dysregulation to homeostasis.

As with trauma, those with ADHD can feel a major disconnect with their bodies. Having specific movements timed with breath work can draw attention to your body and be able to notice the sensations and feelings that go along with those movements. We will not only work with breath as one of the means for self-regulation, but we will also use specifically designed body movements to support executive functioning.

Many people with ADHD know that it impacts them, but they don’t know the depth of how it impacts them. We will explore both. Kim has created a plan that will address the mind-body connection in supporting those with ADHD through conversation, yoga, breathwork, and some fun mindfulness activities.
