Habitual postures and repeated movements of everyday life can create imbalances in your body that over time contribute to discomfort, pain, or even injury. Yoga is a great support in keeping your body healthy, but it is not uncommon to take these imbalances into your yoga practice which can reveal some of these imbalances.
Tight and cranky hips are one of the more common complaints in the yoga room. Habitual posture and movement patterns are a big contributor for this area of the body to feel aggravated and tight. In addition, cranky hips affect other areas of the body negatively as well, most commonly the lower back. Given that our autonomic nervous system has an especially direct connection to the pelvis, unprocessed stress more often resides in the hips or whole pelvic region.
Tension in the pelvis often comes from or contributes to a holding pattern which can affect our digestive system as well. Creating strength in the key muscles helps support healthy hips and stability in the body and furthermore can avoid constant tension in this area. Targeted stretching, breath practices and relaxation can help let go of tension in the hips and support the digestive system. Nature teaches us that autumn is the time to digest and let go, physically and mentally.
Feel the liberation of understanding your body, its patterns, and its imbalances. Enjoy the therapeutic approach of your yoga practice and create more balance, stability, and freedom in your body on and off the mat.
